Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in Directive, policy and procedure development, revisions and additions;
  • Establishes, organizes and assists in collection of documentation for all
  • accreditation file;
  • Maintains accredited status with the various accrediting bodies;
  • Composes correspondence including e-mails, letters and other reports;
  • Deals with a variety of accreditation issues from contract approval, payment of fees, setting up
  • Mock and On-Site Assessments and keeping up with standard changes and interpretations;
  • Assists with the development of the unit's annual budget, inventory and specialized reports;
  • Notifies other unit commanders and own supervisor of the status and requirements for current Compliance;
  • Exercises direct supervision of employees of the Accreditation Unit;
  • Prepares and submits the CFA and FCAC annual report;
  • Reviews and approves subordinate decisions, recommendations and actions;
  • Ensures that revisions of all departmental written directives are in compliance with accreditation standards;
  • Keeps the Executive Staff updated on the status of the department’s accredited status;
  • Ensures that the Commission on Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA), Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission (FCAC) and Florida Telecommunications Accreditation Commission (TAC) standard revisions are complied with as soon as possible;
  • Keeps abreast of the latest developments in the accreditation process by attending FLA-PAC and Commission meetings and conferences;
  • Conducts random, unannounced inspections of agency units and facilities for the purpose of assessing compliance with accreditation standards, agency procedures and government regulations;
  • Conducts briefings as needed with the Sheriff, Chief of Staff and Chief Deputy regarding the operational progress of the Unit;
  • Sets work priorities, coordinating them to meet deadlines in order to assure an efficient work flow throughout the agency;
  • Reviews a wide variety of complex and technical issues concerning law enforcement, detention and communications standards and the accreditation process;
  • Attends Commission meetings and serves as liaison to CFA, FCAC, and TAC for all accreditation matters and any changes in the department’s accredited status;
  • Keeps abreast of all aspects of the accreditation process, including proposed changes or amendments to the standards, assessing the impact of changes on current policies and procedures of the agency;
  • Provides accreditation training for agency employees;
  • Drafts new written directives or assigns writing projects to subject matter experts to achieve accreditation objectives;
  • Maintains master and archive files for agency written directives;
  • Maintains standards files for primary and secondary compliance;
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Selection Criteria:

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Resources, Business Administration or related field AND three (3) years of professional experience; OR
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Resources, Business Administration or related field AND five (5) years of professional experience in Public or Government Administration; OR
  • At least seven (7) years of professional experience in Accreditation; OR Public or Government Administration; AND
  • Must have valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Prior experience as an Accreditation Specialist or Supervisor (preferred).
